Last week I was just having one of those days (or truthfully, weeks). You know the kind. Where you feel overworked, overtired, overstressed and just, over it. One of those days where I felt overwhelmed by the 9-5, blog schedule, packed diary and inability to have time to catch up with my loved ones as much as I’d like to.
It’s on these particular days where I consider what my life would be like if I wasn’t a blogger. I’d have a tidier home, probably less eye wrinkles, a healthier diet and maybe even time to watch Love Island. Yeah okay fuck that last one.
It’s tempting. Don’t get me wrong. But I know that despite these positives, I’d also be a bit lost. A bit unsure and I definitely wouldn’t feel as content as I do now. Where would I share all my stories about shitting myself at the top of the Stratosphere?
So on this tiresome day, instead of going home and watching Netflix in bed, I slapped on another layer of under eye concealer and went to a blogger event that deep down I knew I’d regret not going to. Bloody FOMO.
“How was your day?” Allyn asked when I got home.
“Oh a bit shit really. Just a busy, tiresome day in the office, didn’t sleep well so felt exhausted. The event was ok, couldn’t be bothered with it really. Oh and I got nominated for another bloody award. Bleurgh”
“Wait, what?”
My fake frown turned into a grin.
Because the event wasn’t ok, my day wasn’t a bit shit. God I should be in a soap opera.
In fact I had a fantastic evening. And that’s what I’m really here to tell you about in my longwinded about way.
At said event, I was laughing over wine with true friends, the ones that started as ‘fellow bloggers’ and turned into people I can talk to about real life shit. And it was with them that I found out I’d been nominated for Best New Blog in the Bloggers Blog Awards.
We squealed, we cheered, and in that moment the stresses and worries of my week got wiped away.
It was all worth it again.
The recognition and support from that moment on has stunned me. I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have taken the time to congratulate me and share their kind words. I knew that the blogging community was supportive before, but I never realised how much so until now.
So this one is dedicated to you. You who read, comment, share or like. You who retweeted my post that time because you enjoyed it. You who thought of little ‘ole me when it came to placing your vote.
Without your encouragement, honesty, inspiration and welcoming arms, I wouldn’t be writing this post.
Thank you, you absolute beauts.
There are some incredible bloggers nominated in this year’s awards. I am truly honoured to see my name alongside them.
You can vote here before 10th September.
P.S. Shout out to Hayley from TeaPartyBeauty who organises these fantastic awards, recognising bloggers big and small for their creativity, consistency and style. Bravo to you lady.
